Paleo Day 2 - Well, that wasn’t so bad now was it?

Hit up the local Giant (well, one of them. there’s about ten billion within a five mile radius of Lancaster…) after working at the mall today. Dear GODS does Giant have awesome organic selection (well, for a supermarket at least). I EVEN FOUND COCONUT OIL. And almond oil. And they had coconut milk and almond milk as well, but I didn’t pick any up because I’m not sure what to use it in and I didn’t want it to go bad before I figured it out. But I picked up a bunch of organic produce, like baby spinach, cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, apples, spaghetti squash, baby carrots, etc. I got a bunch of wild-caught fish, some organic apple-chicken sausage, almonds, pistachios… a couple other things too. I grabbed some glass mason jars to store my bone stock in (which is coming along pretty nicely… I guess. I’m not sure how it’s supposed to come along, but it smells good!) and a steamer insert so I can make mashed cauliflower to go with my beef tomorrow.

I had to catch myself a few times when I almost grabbed for something in the organic section until I realized it wasn’t Paleo. I had to keep reminding myself I wasn’t buying just anything organic, I was looking for Paleo-specific things.

And I only spent a little over $100. That’s with $30 worth of wild-caught fish, $20 worth of almond and coconut oils, the jars, the steamer and allll the produce. I was expecting it to be much, much higher. That’s not much more than I normally would spend at the grocery store!! Now, granted this is probably only about 3-4 days worth of food (produce wise at least) but I won’t have to buy the fish or the oils or the jars or the steamer every time I go to the store. So honestly, I really think my fears about the expense of switching to Paleo, let alone organic Paleo, is really going to be a wash.

I’m excited for the meals I have in store for tomorrow, and that hasn’t happened in a very long time.
