Paleo Day 14 - Insert Tagline Here
Last night I succesfully made my own almond flour! I read through a few articles, including this one, and figured why should I pay $10 for something I could make with $4 worth of almonds and a blender? It was almost comically easy - just dump some almonds into the blender and hit the ice crush button a few times. Honestly, the hardest part of the whole thing was figuring out why my blender...

Nom Nom Paleo: Giveaway Time! Win A LunchBots Trio... →
nomnompaleo:
This weekend, I had the pleasure of working out with Jackie Linder, the founder of LunchBots, at the Catalyst Athletics Olympic lifting seminar. I know I’ve spoken of how much I admired her from afar in my previous LunchBots giveaway, but after sharing a barbell with her for two days, I…

Paleo Day 12 - Time keeps on slippin' into the...
Been a few days since I posted, life gets carried away like that sometimes. Exciting things that have happened since my last update:
- Found out I’ve lost a little more than 5 lbs since I started Paleo. Huzzah! This is the first significant weight loss I’ve had in a long time. I’ve fluxuated back and forth about 10lbs since I graduated college (where I put on most of my weight....

Paleo Day 9 - Om nom nom nom...
That was the single most delectable thing I’ve eaten since switching to the Paleo diet, and in all honesty, for some time before switching as well.
I set out to make Bison burgers with the ground bison meat I found at Giant the other day (and immediately grabbed with joy because bison meat is incredible). I checked out a bunch of different Paleo burger recipes just to get a general gist of...

Paleo Day 9 - The White Stuff
Breakfast this morning consisted of a bunch of veggies I had sitting in my fridge getting tossed unceremoniously into a pan with coconut oil and cajun seasoning. They included: grape tomatoes, carrots, green bell peppers, spaghetti squash and onions. I also added the rest of the ground beef from a couple days ago and sprinkled some unsalted sunflower seeds on top when it was all done. I’m...

Paleo Day 8 - And one more thing...
WHERE HAVE MACADAMIA NUTS BEEN ALL MY LIFE?
Seriously? Why didn’t I know about these amazing little balls of buttery, nutty goodness? I mean, I know my dad usually got a can of them in his stocking for Christmas when I was growing up, but I just thought that was some weird grown-up thing. Have I become a weird grown-up? I don’t care, because these things are amazing. I really have to...

Paleo Day 8 - She once was a true love of mine
This is, without a doubt, the best way I’ve ever found to make pork chops. I’ve made it a few times in the past, and the best part? It’s already 90% Paleo! All I had to do differently was replace the water/beef bouillon with the bone broth I made last week. Done! I also cut the butter and salt in half. I don’t have any sage, so I just use rosemary and thyme, thereby...

Paleo Day 7 - What a difference a sharp knife...
Didn’t feel so foggy/lethargic/spacey today like I did yesterday, which really leads me to believe I’m just not getting enough calories. I had eggs with ground beef for breakfast, spaghetti squash with garlic chicken sausage for lunch (which wasn’t a great combo and shall not be repeated), snacked on the leftover spaghetti squash with sauce after work, had pan-fried cod for...

Paleo Day 6 - Zzzzz....
I lied, today’s actual new favorite thing ever is SPAGHETTI SQUASH. Seriously, where has this stuff been all my life? So yummy, and so easy to make! Honestly, the hardest part about my whole dinner tonight was just cutting the damn thing in half. But once I did that, I just threw it on a pan with some water and into the oven it went! Half an hour later and it’s breaking into awesome...

Paleo Day 6 - I have discovered a new favorite...
I feel like I’ve said this every day so far, but when you’re trying so many new things, a lot of them tend to be more amazing than you anticipated. Like my breakfast this morning. Simple scrambled eggs, but I added some hot sauce to the eggs before I cooked them. YUM.
Okay, just a short little post to announce the amazingness of Hot Sauce Eggs… I’ll have a longer post up...

Paleo Day 5 - Rosemary, you're part of me, you...
I love rosemary. It makes everything scrumptious. Simple dinner tonight of chicken pan-fried with olive oil, rosemary, salt & pepper. I think I added a pinch of cayenne too, just for a little heat. Had a little spinach with it as well, but I think spinach is something that’s better IN something than by itself, so I think I’ll stick to incorporating it within recipes from now on.

Paleo Day 5 - The dream police, they live inside...
I’ve even gone Paleo in my dreams now… Last night I dreamt I was at a Festival of Puppies. There were puppies everywhere! So much cute. I stopped at a German food truck (yes, it was specifically German food, my dreams are very detail-oriented) to get something to eat, and ordered some sort of meat dish. The guy handed it to me and I was about to eat it when I realized it was on a bun!...

"Organic" = good, "Natural" = useless →
towintoday:
Here’s the rundown:
USDA organic seal= Let’s start with the big one—organic. Certified by the United States Department of Agriculture, “organic” is a label with layers. This umbrella term certifies that any animals used for meat were not fed antibiotics, hormones, and that produce was grown without pesticides and in a manner consistent with sustainable soil practices. It’s...

Paleo Day 4 - Queen of Steam
I love my steamer insert. Why did I never have one of these before? They’re amazing (and so simple!!) I steamed up 2 bunches of organic broccoli, added a little salt and butter, and ate the whole thing like it was a bowl of ice cream or something, it tasted so good.
I also made curried ground turkey (because Giant didn’t have any ground pork… grrr) with baby spinach, which is...

"526. Weigh yourself every morning. The battle of...
FALSE. This is actually the worst thing you can do if you’re worried about your weight. Your body naturally fluctuates its weight from day to day, hour to hour. You’ll never see results if you worry about that 1 lb you added from yesterday. It’s better to weigh yourself once a week or once a month, if at all, if you really want to get an accurate measure of how you’re...

Paleo Day 4 - Early to bed, early to rise...
…means I have to go to bed sooner, cuz I didn’t leave myself enough time to get ready this morning :/
I was able to cook up some spiced apple chicken sausage (in coconut oil which is my new favorite thing), but I’m worried I didn’t cook it long enough. It’s not pink anywhere, and it looks like it’s cooked through, but I worry about that kind of stuff. Which is...

Paleo Day 3 - Down the Drain
I’m so upset - I had to trash pretty much a whole head of organic cauliflower. I was making the mashed cauliflower to go with the beef goulash tonight, and everything was going smoothly - no mishaps with cutting it up, everything steamed gorgeously… then I put it into my blender to puree and everything seemed to be going well, until I noticed a little cauliflower coming out of the...

Nom Nom Paleo: Best Make Ahead Side: Garlic... →
nomnompaleo:
I know I’ve posted this recipe before, but I just wanted to show how easy it is to prepare. I made it after work yesterday morning despite being dog tired.
The first thing I did was to fill up a large stock pot with an inch or two of water. I put the pot on a burner set on high,…
Definitely will be making this to go with the beef goulash tonight! I’m going to have...

Paleo Day 3 - Now you know (and knowing is half...
Lunch = success for the most part. I made a salad of organic baby spinach and grape tomatoes, with sliced turkey breast. Drizzled it with olive oil and added black pepper, oregano and thyme. The spinach was really good! But I think I’m going to have to find a different use for the grape tomatoes. I just can’t do them raw. I had about three, but I couldn’t bring myself to eat any...

Paleo Day 3 - Dem bones, dem bones
I have successfully created bone marrow stock! I let it go for about 20 hours in my crock-pot on low, using the one bone I got from the grass-fed meats booth at Central Market, as well as some organic garlic and the ends to the sweet potato I ate yesterday (because, why not?). I haven’t tasted it yet (I’m not brave enough at this point to just drink it straight…) but it smells...

Nom Nom Paleo: Giveaway Time! Win A Copy of Well... →
nomnompaleo:
As I’ve mentioned before, I’m keeping a copy of Melissa Joulwan’s cookbook, Well Fed, on my kitchen counter this month to keep my Whole30 on course.
I’ve been a superfan of Melicious for as long as I’ve been Paleo, so I was impatient for her cookbook to join my collection.

Done, and done! Hope this is the way y’all meant to leave a comment…

Paleo Day 2 - Well, that wasn't so bad now was it?
Hit up the local Giant (well, one of them. there’s about ten billion within a five mile radius of Lancaster…) after working at the mall today. Dear GODS does Giant have awesome organic selection (well, for a supermarket at least). I EVEN FOUND COCONUT OIL. And almond oil. And they had coconut milk and almond milk as well, but I didn’t pick any up because I’m not sure what...

Paleo Day 2 - Beef! It's what's for dinner.
I don’t really know what I made for dinner tonight, but it’s tasty…
I had some ground beef and I wasn’t sure what to do with it, so I just started browning it and I figured it would come to me as it cooked. It’s not grass-fed beef (I only just switched, I still have some other stuff left over…) so I drained most of the fat off after it was done browning. I...

Paleo Diet Day Two - That's... a lot of empty...
Had what I’ve decided to call “green eggs” for breakfast today - basically just scrambled eggs and spinach. Yum. Remembered the salt & pepper this time!
After breakfast I went down to Central Market to get all the ingredients to make Hungarian Beef Goulash because it sounds delish. I got organic, grass fed beef & bacon as well as a marrow bone to try my hand at beef bone...

Paleo Day One - Foraging for Lunch
I knew lunch wouldn’t be perfect, considering I haven’t even been able to get to a grocery store/market since I decided to make the switch this morning. All things considered, I think I did pretty well with what I had to work with. I wrapped some sliced turkey around low-fat mozarella sticks and had a handful of almonds. The biggest problem is that, because we’re so short staffed...

smokin-la asked: Dairy isn't paleo. Some folks will do raw dairy, but technically, no dairy. Except Ghee which is butter with the milk solids removed, therefore it is only fat. Hummus is not paleo. You have to process chic peas before using them (they are also high in carbs). That is generally the best way to tell. Grains, beans, breads, pastas. No legumes (peanuts). Check your library for the Paleo...

Paleo Diet Day One - Scary day, Scary changes!
This is it. First day jumping into a new diet lifestyle that I just discovered yesterday. I went from a Consumerist article linking to an article on career building tips linking to how to further your education in an internet-enabled world linking to NerdFitness’ PaleoDiet 101. The more I read about it, the more sense it made. Evolutionary nutrition – eating what we as a species had eaten...
